Frequently Asked Questions

Please have a read of the  frequently asked questions to discover how to get the most out of your Auckland newborn photography session with Little Lovely.

I deliver all of the best images I edit from the session, I do not limit how many you get, as a guide I would say between 30-50 would be expected. Digital images are delivered via an online gallery for you to download directly within 2-3 weeks of your session. Your session deposit fee holds your booking in my system.  Your remaining balance is invoiced and due on the session date.  In-home lifestyle newborn sessions, include gorgeous parent photos with baby, family and sibling photos if applicable, beautiful newborn portraits and a series of macro shots to capture the tiniest of details.

Lifestyle newborn sessions are held in the comfort of your own home, which means they are perfect for families with young siblings who might be more comfortable in their own home environment!  During the session I will capture details of your home to help tell the story of this time.

Yes, of course!  I wouldn’t expect anyone’s home to be staged to perfection or even tidy with a newborn in the mix!  When I arrive I will have a look around and will choose rooms to work in that have soft natural lighting, I will then help organise the space if required but I am all for embracing the real and messy.  We usually use a bedroom for some poses on a bed, so if you have a neutral coloured duvet that is ideal, but if not don’t worry at all.  Documenting your family, and home, exactly how it usually is will be more meaningful in years to come – let go of perfection!

Newborn sessions can be booked for any stage.  They are best booked within the first two weeks for the sleepy-posed newborn photos, and after two weeks they become more alert and awake photos will be captured to show their little personalities.  We keep in touch in the lead up to due date and once baby is born we pick a session date to suit.  Newborn sessions are held Monday-Friday between 10am-2pm.

Sessions can take up to 2-4 hours depending on baby and how they settle, please allow at least four hours for a full session.  If siblings are part of the session, we do some family/sibling/parent photos first.  Please do not schedule any visitors or appointments for the day of your session.  After the session baby and mum will need a rest.  Having people other than immediate family members present at home during the session can be distracting and may add time constraints, which can impact on achieving a full gallery for you.

Yes absolutely!  Part of the booking process is a short online questionnaire where you can show me any lifestyle newborn session images that you love.

For in-home lifestyle sessions I will bring some neutral/earthy toned swaddles and onesies.  I do love when parents provide a special outfit or have a favourite wrap to use themselves but sticking to neutral soft tones is ideal to create a timeless style.  Keeping to only one outfit will keep baby settled and calm without multiple clothing changes.  No props are used in lifestyle in-home sessions.

Dress everyone in casual neutrals if possible (dark or light neutrals are fine), avoiding bright colours, heavy stripes, patterns, logos, pictures or words on clothing.  Clean, neutral coloured nails avoiding any bright or neon coloured nail polish is best.  Hair can be pinned or clipped back to prevent it covering the face in side profile images and make up (if worn usually) can be slightly heavier than normal.

I will give you guidance on posing during the session, where to look and what to do with your hands, so you won’t feel awkward at all!  Not many people love having photos taken but I keep my sessions fun and lighthearted, focusing on capturing genuine interaction and moments together.  If baby is settled and sleepy we can do some relaxed newborn posing too.
